When reading the portrait of the old geisha as opposed to reading Aguri I felt that there was one major difference between the two of the stories. For one thing the relationship between Kosono and yuki resembled that of a healthy relationship between mother and son. whereas the relationship between Aguri and Okada seemed to be chaotic and psychotic in my opinion. While reading the Old Geisha I couldn't help but think that Kosono really loved Yuki not just as how a mother would love a son but also how a parent would raise their child in hopes of giving them better opportunities than they had, in hopes of letting them find something that they we're able to achieve in their own life time. Even if Yuki ran away multiple times its almost as if it was expected of him to come right back, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not even in the next month, but someday. However when it comes to Aguri and Okada I can't say I really understand the actual relationship here. On the surface I thought that it was a normal Sugar daddy/mutual benefitting relationship where a young pretty girl is treated to various expensive gifts in exchange for being the “gentlemen's” girlfriend. But the more I read this story it seemed like Okada was truly losing his mind because of this relationship. On multiple occasions it seems like if Okada was hallucinating different scenarios that seem to show the truth of the relationship, for example Aguri only being him because she knows she will benefit from it with clothes and jewels. Ironically however even though he himself thinks of these scenarios, and even though he seems to be physically sick because of it he still stays with Aguri. Whether or not he truly loves her, or if he just loves the benefits of being with her isn’t very clear to me, however the one thing that is clear to me is that the relationship that he has with Aguri definitely is not healthy, and just like how he envisions in his day dreams, may take his life eventually.
Although I think Yuki is just trying to runaway from a "set" future that Kosono has prepared for him, do you think Yuki will eventually come back and settle down with Michiko? And as for "Aguri" is it safe to assume that Okada is literally insane? Or is there more to his relationship with Aguri?
