At the beginning of Chapter 4, it mentioned that the customs and practices in Kappaland is very different from those of humans (60). During Dr. Chak’s and the narrator’s conversation about birth control, Chak found the conversation itself funny. From their conversation, it seems as though the author think that abortion without the child’s consent is crazy. Chak said “But surely you must agree that it’s quite ludicrous for parents to take only their own circumstances into account. Doesn’t this strike you as the height of selfishness?” (61). Chak called parents selfish if they only cared about their own wants and needs and not the child’s. We later read the process of giving birth through Bag’s wife. Before the kappy child is born, the father kappa would place his mouth on the mother kappa’s vagina and talk to their child about whether or not they want to be born into the world. Unlike human children, kappa children are alive and could talk before being born. If the kappa child doesn’t want to be born, they would respond to their father’s question with a ‘no’. Then, the midwife would inject something into the mother’s womb which will then deflate her stomach and thus ending the kappa child’s life. Based on this, it seems that the author is pro-life. To him, children inside their mother’s womb has the right to choose whether or not to be born. He believes that without the unborn child’s consent, it makes the parents who want to get abortion look selfish. This is very similar to the modern world right now. Many people believe that going through with abortion without the unborn child’s consent is similar to murdering them.
